First off, congrats! Getting into law school is a huge achievement
and should not be taken lightly.
To maximize your opportunity, follow the steps below:
Weigh your offers:
The first acceptance is the best feeling in the world. But don’t let that cloud your judgment. Go back to the factors you considered when choosing which schools to apply to, and reevaluate your offers based on this criteria. Don’t let a school’s fancy invitations or welcome gifts weigh your decision!
Negotiate
scholarships:
Be tactful about sending scholarship opportunities to certain schools you’d love to go to. If you have superior scholarship offers from schools in the same rank or region as your top choice, send those along! Caution: there’s a wrong and a right way to do this. Prepare the
rest of your life:
After you accept your offer, be proactive in securing your housing, scheduling your move (if applicable), and planning your life in your new city. 1L comes at you very fast, and you want everything else to be in line so that you can hit the ground running.
Relax:
I know it sounds crazy after a year long’s commitment to the LSAT, applications, and either work or school (or both), but again, 1L comes at you very fast. Having a restful summer to recuperate and to think about your priorities as you enter law school will pay dividends in the long run.
