BARBRI was honored to be selected as one of the eight cutting-edge lawtech companies by the Ministry of Justice to visit Singapore from June 21 to June 23. As a global leader in legal education, we are on a mission to bring the power of legal knowledge to everyone in the profession by providing the most affordable, flexible and effective education possible. Joining this delegation to Singapore is an exceptional opportunity to advance our goal.

Singapore is a natural market for BARBRI Global. We have seen a strong appetite among advocates and solicitors throughout the country to qualify in England & Wales to serve the growing global market here. Singapore has been consistently acknowledged as a global business hub – one that features developed infrastructure, political stability, open business policies, a skilled workforce, the use of English as the main working language and respect for intellectual property rights.

The world’s most innovative trade agreement, the UK-Singapore Digital Economy Agreement (DEA) which was signed in June 2022, has heralded a new era of collaboration in the digital economy, with particular focus on the legal tech sector. The GREAT Legal Services, the UK Ministry of Justice’s trade campaign, are building on the DEA by bringing a cutting-edge UK lawtech delegation to Singapore. When GREAT Legal Servicesinvited BARBRI to be part of this prestigious delegation, we jumped at the chance. From 21 June to 23 June, I, as the Asia business development manager, represented BARBRI alongside leading UK lawtechs in Singapore.

To kick off the three-day event, the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore hosted the delegation at the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore headquarters. Distinguished speakers from the UK lawtech sector and the Singapore business and technology industry gathered to discuss the region’s potential, the pressing need for streamlining legal operations, and the incredible opportunities for future collaboration.

The second day of the agenda was filled with insights and engagement. The morning session was hosted by British High Commissioner Kara Owen at the beautiful Eden Hall. Minister Mike Freer and Minister Rahayu Mahzam of the Singapore Ministry of Law illuminated the morning session, discussing the potentials of the Digital Economy Agreement (DEA) and future collaborations. Also, it was exciting to witness first-hand the energy of the Singaporean lawtech scene through engaging presentations by the Ministry of Law and Singapore Academy of Law

The afternoon’s roundtable at the Tanglin Club was a treasure trove of local insights, thanks to the productive discussions led by the High Commissioner, the Ministers, and experts from local and international law firms. The second day was rounded off with a splendid reception at Eden Hall, where we networked with some of the most influential players in Singapore’s tech and legal ecosystem.

The last day was immensely busy at the Business Matching Day event facilitated by GREAT Legal Services and IoT Tribe. This event showcased the great potential for creating partnerships with key players in the Singapore market and beyond. I am so proud to have the opportunity representing BARBRI Global to grow our reachand demonstrate BARBRI Global’s commitment to supporting the global legal profession to local law firms, in-house legal departments and at the Singapore Academy of Law. The excitement around working together is soaring.

We are tremendously grateful to Minister Mike Freer  who travelled to Singapore to show
the UK Government’s commitment to the lawtech sector, challenging us to be
bold, brave and to embrace every opportunity to learn and collaborate with the
local stakeholders.

BARBRI Global is grateful to the Ministry of Justice UK team for this opportunity to be part of the UK lawtech delegation to Singapore. This opportunity ushers in a wealth of possibilities for BARBRI, paving the way for forging new relationships, cultivating strategic alliances, and broadening our operational footprint.
