We are proud to announce that our inaugural SQE1 Prep course has started this January with over 300 students enrolled, taking their first steps towards becoming qualified solicitors in England and Wales.
Replacing the Legal Practice Course (LPC), the new Solicitor’s Qualifying Exam (SQE), which comprises two parts, the SQE1 and SQE2, was designed to enable a more diverse pool of candidates to enter the legal sector. Together, the SQE1 and SQE2 provide an in-depth grounding in the legal industry through a combination of knowledge-based and practical work experience-based assessments.
Commenting on BARBRI’s first SQE1 Prep course, Victoria Cromwell, director of UK Programmes said: “As supporters of the introduction of the SQE since its inception, we were confident that this new route to qualification in the legal sector would be well received. However, we’ve been overwhelmed with the response to our first SQE1 Prep course and are delighted to welcome a variety of candidates on board, from paralegals to legal and non-legal postgraduates to international lawyers seeking to practice in England and Wales.
“The SQE exam might be new to the industry and our students, however, we have decades of experience helping people pass this style of exam with our prep courses, such as the U.S. Bar for example. Having decided to take the leap and invest their time in becoming a qualified solicitor, it’s important to us that our students know they are in safe hands with an established, high-quality provider and that we can help them prepare for SQE success.”
In the spirit of the SQE, to enable a diversity of candidates to become qualified solicitors, in addition to the Flexible 40-week part-time course which started last week, we also have additional Focused part-time (20-week) and Accelerated full-time (10-week) options available. So regardless of whether our candidates are earning while they learn or undertaking other commitments, we can offer the flexibility that they need to prepare for their exams with confidence.
Our SQE1 Prep course will take place twice a year to coincide with scheduled exam dates and students must pass the SQE1 exam before they can proceed to the SQE2. The SQE1 element of the SQE qualification is a computer-based exam, which tests legal knowledge using multiple-choice questions. The second part of the assessment, SQE2, helps candidates develop the practical skills involved in becoming a solicitor and includes a mandatory two-year work experience element.
